"I wish I was a... hen-house maker." Yes, I really had this thought in 2021 - and quit my job in the industrial sector. The trigger? Two years of parental leave with my two children Luisa and Oskar coupled with a lot of time in the garden and in the great outdoors prompted me to buy chickens in 2016. But keeping them was easier said than done. The coops were difficult to clean, complicated to handle and, if they were affordable, left a lot to be desired in terms of quality. So I decided to build my own. It had to look nice, be quick to assemble and easy to clean. It also had to be of a high quality, but without costing the earth like the others on this market segment. It took a lot of fiddling around, a lot of trial and error and a lot of learning. Several prototypes later and there they were - my seven chickens in their new home. And because good things get better when you share them, I didn't want to keep my creative solutions to myself, but to make them available to as many other (prospective) chicken keepers as possible. And so "Hanehus" was born.
